I may have given them to you, or you may have created them, but whatever your problems are they’re your problems. That has to be one of my favorite quotes from my mother. She’s an honest woman and I love it. Even my friends love hearing her advice; it’s so simple yet powerful at the same time.
That got me thinking though, which as you all know may not always end well.
No matter what, all of us are messed up in some way or we get messed up at some point during our lives. There’s always that secret that each person has but doesn’t share. Then there are also the general issues - we think others are better than us, or we do something most people wouldn’t, or we find that we’re being talked about because someone disagrees with our beliefs.
As my neighbor would say, in reference to a person wanting everyone to like them.
Somebody doesn’t like you? Good! That means you actually stand for something and have some beliefs. If everyone likes you then that means you’re a LIAR and a DAMN FOOL.
No matter what you will always be different and always fit in, always be agreed with and always disagreed with, always supported and always opposed.
But what’s most important is to always BE YOU, and that is one of the most difficult things that people have trouble doing.
So no matter how messed up you may be or whatever your problems are, there are always two sides to every story. You just have to know which you would like to be a part of.
Ironically, if there’s nothing wrong with you, that in turn makes you bland and ordinary which makes you messed up as well. So simply be you and find who enjoys you for you.
We all have those couple of friends who we think are crazy in some way, but we’re still friends with them because we know deep down they’re a good person. Perhaps that’s you, and you should be glad to have friends just as messed up as you are.
As my mom said, your problems are yours. Become aware of exactly how you are and who you want to become and make the effort and take the action. Don’t be afraid to be different, there’s someone that will love and support you. Sometimes even if they disagree with you.
Cheers to everyone having problems!
